Benjamin Stevenson

Founder, Principal Consultant

Benjamin Stevenson founded Praxis Operations Advisors to help life sciences teams grow with intention, not chaos.

With more than 15 years of experience in biotech and healthcare operations, he has led teams through everything from lab expansions and headquarters moves to vendor transitions, safety program rollouts, and organizational redesigns. Before launching Praxis, Benjamin served as Director of Facilities at CARGO Therapeutics and as Interim Director of Workplace Experience at 23andMe. Today, he consults with emerging biotech companies to help them build operational systems that scale.

Benjamin specializes in helping early- to mid-stage companies navigate the messy middle: when headcount doubles, your space no longer fits, and your people, process, and physical environment need to realign fast.

Our Approach

At Praxis, Benjamin doesn’t just advise, he embeds. His model brings on-site leadership, hands-on execution, and a clear roadmap tailored to your team’s size, growth curve, and scientific mission.

Every engagement is built on three principles:

  • Enthusiasm — Show up with energy, curiosity, and respect for the work being done.

  • Insight — Identify gaps quickly, ask the right questions, and communicate clearly across teams.

  • Growth — Build systems, people, and spaces that support both scientific progress and organizational health.

Why “Praxis”?

The word praxis means the intersection of theory and action. It’s also a nod to the sci-fi worlds that inspire Benjamin, where infrastructure, creativity, and big-picture thinking collide.

At Praxis, Benjamin aims to bring structure and momentum to teams that are building the future of medicine.

Our Services

Laboratory workspace with various scientific equipment, supplies, and workstations, including bottles, test tubes, and experimental tools.
  • From freezer farms to DI lines. Design, optimize, and manage critical infrastructure for speed and compliance.
    Example Project:
At CARGO Therapeutics, led the HQ expansion from 30K to 100K sq. ft., building out BSL-2 lab space and implementing CO₂ and vacuum systems that supported GMP readiness.

  • Site selection, space programming, and culture-building through every phase of growth.
    Example Project:
Supported 23andMe through the transition from incubator space to a standalone facility—aligning lease strategy, lab adjacency planning, and workforce experience under one cohesive framework.

  • Hands-on support from programming through punch list, including cross-functional coordination and vendor oversight.
    Example Project:
Directed a full tenant improvement project for a Bay Area biotech, coordinating with architects, GC, and EH&S to meet an aggressive six-month delivery timeline without disruption to R&D productivity.

  • Rapid assessments across Ops, EHS, IT, and Procurement to uncover blind spots and build 30-60-90 remediation plans.
    Example Project:
Performed a company-wide gap analysis at a mid-stage biotech, identifying process, compliance, and communication gaps across six functional areas and developing a prioritized 120-day remediation plan.
